Vocal Ensemble
The images above are from the 2013 Connecticut Honor Choir performance at Manchester Community College in October.GPA had two students selected to perform in it this year (our first year entering the conference). Cheers to Luke Powers and Olga Rivera! They were conducted by acclaimed choral director Ed Bolkavac.

Vocal ensemble has been working at learning to read music notation and also develop a more skilled musical ear.
A very important skill is also effective singing technique for maximum singing efficiency.
This is done by musicians when they learn by rote. Students sing back musical patterns and then improvise their own patterns that the class sings back.
The goal is to build a strong vocabulary in the musical language that aids in reading as well as improvisation and creating music.
We also have been learning different meters in music and how poetry can be read to fit with meter.
Check out the poem Dragonfly by Douglas Florian. Can you tell what music meter it would be best fit with? Try asking someone from GPA choir to learn more.
Our next step is to take text and apply the vocal patterns and understanding of rhythm to create a capella arrangements and songs! Stay tuned for updates.
